It was a very heart touching day for me to spent time with our Salaf team together at BaanHaThaiRak Bangkok Thailand Orphanage (in Thai language – Baan means Home, Ha means Heart, Thai means Thai, Rak means Love), so basically it means a home to the heart of all-stars filled with love, kindness and generosity.
In the BaanHaThaiRak orphanage, there are now have 28 orphans, age range is from 4 – 16 years old. Some of these children lost both parents, some of them lost father (in the Islam, the legal definition of orphan (yateem) is a child under the age of discernment whose father has died or has been killed), their mother are unable to take care of them. And obviously, those children do not have the capacity to give for themselves.
From Monday to Friday, the BaanHaThaiRak foundation will send children to nearby school to study, and in the weekend, children will be in the orphanage learn other things, play games, clean up their rooms, washing their clothes and relax etc.
Speaking of orphans, from the days of pre-Islamic ignorance until today, young orphans have been oppressed and unwanted, there have no one to look after their interests, adult with bad intentions and evil hearts have taken advantage of these young children with no restraint. Their inherited wealth has been stripped of them and used unlawfully, orphaned girls have been married and not given their dowry, some were sold into slavery etc. Islam came to abolish these types of injustices.
The many references in the Qur’an and Sunnah that call for showing kindness and just treatment toward orphans are proof enough of their importance. Allah says:
“And they ask you concerning the orphans. Say: ‘The best thing to do is what is for their good. And if you mix their affairs with yours, they are your brothers. And Allah knows one who means mischief from one who means good.” (The Quran 2:220)
Allah has dispraise the one who turns away the orphans, and that it is the way of those who don’t believe in the Day of Judgement.
“Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense (Doomsday)? That is he who repulses the orphan (harshly), and urges not the feeding of the poor…” (The Quran 107: 1-3)
Allah has also encouraged us to feed and care for them for his sake.
“And they give food, in spite of their love for it, to the poor, the orphan, and the captive. Saying, ‘We feed you for the sake of Allah alone. No reward do we ask of you, nor thanks.” (The Quran 76:8)
We arrived there around noon time, after had a quick-lunch, we met up with those children and had different activities with them, they are beautiful, lovely and smart, love to learn and learn fast. You can see we had great time together from below this video:
